Driver and Escort Training

The course is appropriate for

  • Senior Management and Directors
  • Drivers
  • Escorts
  • Carers and attendants

The course is constructed in a modular design and consists of two one day modules, Theory and Practical, which do not have to be run on consecutive days.

 

First Module - Theory

Medical units including (but not limited to): -
Asthma, Autism, AD/HD, Diabetes, Epilepsy; Allergic reactions

Health and safety units (but not limited to):
Manual Handling, Accident and emergency procedures, Checking vehicle emergency equipment, Vehicle evacuations

General and Caring units (but not limited to):
Understanding the needs of passengers and carers, Communication, Challenging behaviour, Child protection

 

Second Module - Practical

Session 1 - First Aid
Session 2 - Passenger and Wheelchair restraint systems
Session 3 - Vehicle evacuations, Tail lifts, Vehicle emergency equipment checking 


Training Methods for both modules

Theory:-

Seminar using PowerPoint Presentations, Videos, Visual aids and Full course notes

Practical:-

Hands on training using Resuscitation manikins, First aid equipment, Wheelchair and Passenger restraint equipment, Fire fighting equipment, Minibuses/Coaches/Cars, Tail- lifts, Wheelchairs and emergency equipment.

Duration

Theory; normally 4-6 hours including breaks
Practical; normally 5-7 hours including breaks.

Training Scrutiny

  • Refresher training within 2 years of original Training Course

  • Regular Quality Assessments by all appropriate agencies to ensuring accuracy of information and maintenance of the integrity and effectiveness of the training.

  • Each course has its own Q.A. sheets for each trainee to complete providing confidentiality of the trainee and feedback for the Authority

  • Approved by NACT (National Association of Council Contract Transport)

  • Phoenix conforms fully to the Code of Practice as set out in the LAPTOP guide supported by the DfES under the guidance of NACT

  • Full certificate of successful training and entry onto the National Register of Trained Drivers and Escorts/Attendants maintained by NACT

  • Recommended by Zurich Municipal

  • Fully compliant with LAPTOP (Local Authority Passenger Transport Operating Procedures)

  • Approved by EDI, Edexcell for VRQ, Btec & NVQ training
